We need to eat the right combination of a variety of foods. All foods contain nutrients and the combination of foods which we eat can have a direct bearing of the quality and perhaps even length of our lives. Without the correct balance of carbohydrate, fat, protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water, our bodies will not function at an optimum level.
MYTH:
Confectionery isn't healthy. |
WRONG
Confectionery contains qualities of all the macronutrients (Carbohydrates, Protein and fat) as well as minerals and vitamins. All of which are required by the body to function. |
MYTH:
Confectionery is just sugar. |
WRONG
Of course confectionery contains sugar, but in the form of carbohydrate - a nutrient used by the body as a fuel source - and one which we all need in varying quantities in order to lead a healthy lifestyle. |
MYTH:
Confectionery is high in fat. |
WRONG
Fat is vital to the human body and is needed to provide energy, insulation, build and maintain body tissue and transport fat, soluble vitamins around the body. |
MYTH:
Eating confectionery makes you fat. |
WRONG
People become fat by consuming more calories than they expend. All foods, including confectionery, contain calories. |
MYTH:
You shouldn't eat between meals. |
WRONG
The body needs large amounts of calories every day in order to function. These calories should be supplied throughout the day. |
MYTH:
Sweets rot your teeth. |
WRONG
Tooth decay is caused by acid produced by oral bacteria from any food containing carbohydrates, which leeches minerals from the teeth. Carbohydrate is found in many foods including fruit and vegetables, cereals, rice and pasta, bread and jams, as well as confectionery. |
